Michael’s major musical influences include swing, contemporary jazz, and indie electronic singer-producers. While he usually sticks to his baritone range, Michael is also a vocal percussionist, making multitrack and loop machine recordings.

He directed the INTI International College choir in Malaysia, where he grew up. Michael was later part of a University of Wisconsin-Madison a cappella group, Fundamentally Sound. He won Best Arrangement at an International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) competition and was nominated for Best Electronic / Experimental Arrangement for the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARA).

Since moving to the Bay Area, Michael's a cappella adventures have continued in various groups including Ro Sham Bo, Pitch Please, Lullabies & Honey, The A Cappella Collective, and Loop Buddies. He strives to create boundary-pushing a cappella arrangements for these groups and beyond.
