Rebecca “Backpack” Holtz plays the alto voice in Side Note. She was introduced to the wild joys of a cappella alongside her friend Gayelan at Smith College and has since taken a whimsical journey through the music world including time with swing orchestras and indie rock trio The Once Hollow. (You can check out some highlights from said adventures here: www.rebeccaholtz.com) Tales of a mystical land with tall trees and tacos as far as the eye can see led this wee ginger hobbit westward from her native Shire, fueled by a love of jazz music and eccentric people. (The Bay has not disappointed in either category.) Behind the karaoke mic she likes to spice things up with some Prince, particularly “Get Off.” Someday, she’d like nothing better than to live in Bag End with 10+ French bulldogs and pugs.
