Voz en Punto
This exceptional ensemble, founded by its director Jose Galvan in 1990, has focused its artistic energy on the highly colorful arena of Mexican culture; nevertheless, it is capable of interpreting with equal success a wide variety of music, from pieces of Mexican colonial polyphony from the 16th and 17th centuries, songs in native tongues and/or with African influences, up to folklore and music of living Mexican concert composers. As if this repertoire weren't versatile enough, the group has also presented programs consisting of European composers, including motets and madrigals; Latin-American music, from tangos to Cuban music and Brazilian bossa-nova; negro spirituals, etc., etc. It is within the context of this great talent, vocal aplomb, charisma, and interpretative flair, in which each member of Voz en Punto places his or her own seal. The end result is an audience which becomes-to quote the group's press notes-"Ecstatic", "On Fire", or "Delirious". Such adjectives would hardly seem to describe a vocal group which achieves its effects without the aid of microphones or other paraphernalia. Voz en Punto is, indeed, the irrefutable proof that the voice is the most glorious instrument which humankind has always had at its disposition. Members: Jose Galvan, Mariana Lorenzo, Vanessa Millan, Sonia Solozano, Luis Martinez, Santiago Menedez |

Vocalicious
VOCAL -- of or pertaining to a vowel or voice sound; plus DELICIOUS -- delightful; greatly pleasing or entertaining; equals VOCALICIOUS -- scrumptious, appetizing, ambrosial, delightful, thrilling, captivating, delectable, tasty, luscious, savory, mouthwatering, yummy. When selecting the right vocal ingredients for Vocalicious, the same process was used as when creating any other high quality product: several trials and errors . . . a failure or two . . . but eventually, a successful recipe guaranteed to please even the most discriminate palates. The recipe for a VOCALICIOUS treat is as follows: Ingredients: Flour – Bassman Peter Govorchin Sugar and Spices – Harmony singers Celeste Decker and Anne Willis Flavorings – Lead singers Carol McMackin and Robert Lenoil Directions: In a comfortable room, add the first five ingredients and mix gently until well blended. Fold in several up-tempo songs and a couple of ballads. Then spread a mixture of friendship and laughter over everything and top with a layer of excitement. Sprinkle with fairy dust if desired. Rehearse at least 6 weeks before serving at room temperature. Bon appetit! Members: Carol McMackin, Celeste Decker, Anne Wilis, Robert Lenoil, Peter Govorchin |
Plumbers of Rome
While serving as court musicians/crepe chefs at the court of Charles VII in the 13th century (they were not allowed to serve as the Royal Plumbers, since plumbing was at that time considered to be a form of witchcraft) the Plumbers of Rome invented a device to hurl food and concert T-shirts into the starving peasant section of the King's Concert Hall. Adapted for military use, and named the Trebuchet, this modest invention lead the French army to many victories, as well as adding to the festive atmosphere of French wedding receptions and modern day Renaissance Festivals. While history has all but forgotten the inventors of the Trebuchet, the Plumbers are commemorated in the traditional French carol ballade de l'arme romaine aim'e de plombier. Members: Randy Jackson, Ron Gilgamesh, Ernie Stuckowitz |

First conceived as a street performance group intent on entertaining audiences around coastal New England during the summer months, Overboard has come a long way in a short time. The group's first album, Shipwrecked, was recorded in Nick's living room and was released during that first summer. Shipwrecked was distributed during frequent busking stops in Newburyport, MA; Freeport, ME and Burlington, VT, as well as around the group's hometown of Boston. 5-Alone
The idea of 5-Alone was conceived in the fall of 1999. I approached four students about starting a jazz a cappella quintet with myself as the fifth member. Encouraged by the succss of our first performance, we continued singing throughout the spring and debuted officially as 5-Alone at the Iron Horse in June, 2000. Now 5-Alone is an accredited performing arts class at PVPA. We've come a long way from the days of rehearsing at lunch and after school. 5-Alone has gained a considerable amount of attention in a very short time. Awards and honors have been piling up from DownBeat Magazine, C.A.S.A., A-Capella.com, The National Harmony Sweepstakes, R.A.R.B., Primarily A Cappella, Berklee College of Music, and the I.A.J.E. 5-Alone has performed all over the world, including New York, California, and The Netherlands, and has turned the world of high school a cappella upside down. The Honeymooners
Formed in April 2004, The Honeymooners is a mixed quartet from the Upper Valley area of Vermont and New Hampshire. Two married couples (you can guess who goes with whom based on vertical similarities!), The HM enjoy performing a wide variety of a cappella music, and audience interaction is always the main goal. Doo-wop, barbershop, gospel and novelty songs... lots of humor and some choreography, for good measure; audiences always seem to want more, because this group looks as though they are having so much fun together! You never really know what their next song might be, but when you hear it, you will be tempted to sing along. A pharmacist, a vice president, a director of manufacturing and a choral music teacher – can you guess who does what? Regardless of what The HM do in “real life,” singing with people they love is a passion, and it keeps that creative energy… and laughter… flowing. The Bradford Trio
The Bradford Trio is a female ensemble that has been inspiring audiences for the last five years. They perform regularly at many Song festivals, concerts, and events. Most notably, the Trio performed the past two years at the Fourth of July Singing In The Smokies Gospel Music Festival in Bryson City, North Carolina. Jimmy and the Threats
Erected in 2001, signed by Elite Records, Jimmy and the Threats took the country by storm and quickly rose as one of the top acappella groups to be reckoned with. Leader of the pack, Jimmy Carmichael, highlighted the group's sound with a bad-boy attitude on-stage that soon began to affect the groups life off-stage. Numerous physical altercations and knife fights began to spread rumors of the hip-hop acappella group, as their private lives became public and consumed by mainstream media. Upon the night of Nov. 27th, singing to a sold-out audience in Boise, Idaho's prestigious Great Hall, an argument ensued between Jimmy and an audience member behind the building. The shouting turned to violence, and the violence turned to shooting. Jimmy Carmichael had spun out of control, leaving the group to scrounge for finances to fund a lawyer for the case, as Epic Records completely removed themselves from the group's name. Now, with Jimmy on the constant rocks, and their backs against a wall larger than that really big one in China, the trio strives to keep alive upon the furious streets of the United States of America. Truly starving artists, with attitude and arrogance beyond that of a doped up Robert Downey Jr's. Members: Andrew Berkowitz, Matt Bissonette, Toussaint Morrison |
The Offbeats
The Offbeats formed in late June last year as a group of 5 guys that loved to sing. We hoped that we might get a chance to compete in the Iowa State Fair Talent Search. With that in mind, our vocal group took on a Nylon-influenced, a cappella sound with "Kiss Him Goodbye". A month and a half later, we found ourselves the Iowa State Fair Bill Riley Talent Search Champions...and with less than two weeks before we went our separate ways to school. We try to sing a little bit over breaks, but mostly now do the college thing. Members: Adam Bogh, Tenor, Alex Bogh, Tenor, Michael McAndrew, Tenor, Michael Penick, Baritone, Jeremy Gussin, Bass. |

The group feels they were born to be together because each member’s voice is specific to their harmony. The group has opened for various gospel artists and believe that no venue is too big or too small. Members: B.R. Thomas , Gregory Warren, Ellis Gupton, Darryl Thomas |
Pitch, Please!
In 2010, Pitch, Please! erupted onto the a cappella scene in response to growing “anti-instrument” sentiment in the greater Los Angeles area. Made up of occasionally hard-working professionals in TV, film, market research, studio recording, advertising and teaching arenas, Pitch, Please! has a collective 56 years of a cappella experience. So unofficially speaking, our first performance took place in 1954, when vocal percussion was still considered some type of witchcraft. Pitch, Please! aint yo’ daddy’s a cappella. It aint yo mama’s neither. But it might be your sister’s…and that’s the way we like it. Members: Stephanie Chan, Sara Collins, Ben Fuller , Arathi Govind, Ian Koff , Adam Shepard, Scotty Pierce, Cate Wright |

With a repertoire that is predominantly rock and pop, We also like to mix it up with some doo-wop, jazzy standards, blue grass, non-secular selections, and even the occasional madrigal thrown in for good measure! The Baudboys
Back around 1990, a couple of the founding members of the coed Microtones decided that they wanted to form a men's a cappella group at Microsoft so that they could sing the charts from their college groups. The original quartet consisted John Rae-Grant, bass and musical director, Bill Pope, baritone, Bob Gunderson, 2nd tenor, and David Olsen, 1st tenor. True to their profession, the group's chosen name, The Baudboys, referred to the method by which modem speeds were rated. The group performed only a few times in its first years of existence, doing lunch time gigs on the Microsoft campus. As members left Microsoft over the years, they would also leave the Baudboys, prompting natural turnover in the membership. During the 1990's, the group expanded it's membership, aiming to have two full quartets within the group. Since that time, the group has remained at 7-9 members, but the expanded membership has allowed the group to sing more complex arrangements than the 4-part charts that the founders envisioned. Shadywood Boys
Shadywood Boys are four guys who get together to sing. We graze freely through the pasture of quartet styles: a little Jubilee Quartet here, a little Doo-Wop there, maybe a bit of Barbershop. Sometimes we wander into the back forty and browse 19th century styles such as Antebellum Spirituals - or even some Shape-Note Singing. But there is one patch of grass we keep coming back to: a style of singing that emerged from the Southeastern U.S. in the 1930's and 40s that would become known as Southern Gospel. This style carries through the early recordings of bands like The Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, and Flatt and Scruggs. It's retro-phonic, and we like it. Members: Larry Statland, Tim Cullen, David Brook, Phil Shaver |
